THE "JULIAZO". IN JULY 1997 THE SPANISH GOVERNMENT ORGANISED AGAINST THE BASQUE LEFT NATIONALIST MOVEMENT THE BIGGEST FASCIST MOBILISATION KNOWN IN EUROPE SINCE THE EXTINCTION OF NAZI GERMANY.

9. Objectives of the mobilisation: to create a scapegoat, to crush dissidence (present and future), to attack the Basque Country and to strengthen Spain as mother country (always sinking and vanishing).

An Analysis of the contents and forms of the messages at that mobilisation (excreted rather than emitted) would give enough material for a doctoral thesis (that somebody will for sure some time write). I refer in the matter to the articles of some members of the BASQUE RED NET.

Firstly because of its aim to create a scapegoat. The JULIAZO has been the authoritarian translation of neurotic-making, sadomasochistic and schizoid orders that have arisen the «rage of the sitting Spaniard». That is, of those miserable masses historically amnesiac, alienated, functionally illiterate with OECD records of lowest press reading rates, made up of seven million pensioners malformed through decades under Franco’s rule, plus seven million housewives compulsive consumers of hallucinating gossip-magazines, mushy soap-operas, floor -cleaners, dish-washer liquids and top-white washing powders. And envy, lots of envy. Alienated masses completed with around two million young unemployed plus two million young overexploited by garbage-wages.

These masses suffer from a real deep uneasiness (pensions under minimum wage, unemployed without unemployment benefit, garbage-wages, overwhelming and unpaid and unvalued work of the housewives) worsened by the frustration of the impossible consumption constantly promoted and encouraged by insistent publicity. And they suffer from an obvious lack of sex and affection which feeds back their terribly low self-esteem and generates anxiety towards various sublimations.

And to those masses has the mobilisation organised by the Spanish government devoted the old nazi-fascist recipe of exploiting, by means of psychological manipulation, the subconscious gold-mine of their piled up dependency, insecurity, anxiety, guilt sense, frustrations and yearnings. It is about taking advantage of the psychic structure of those masses needing and eagering to get promises, to be given hopes of solution and to experience feelings of power and order.

A recipe based upon such a complex analyse comes down to something very simple: to show those masses the scapegoat for their own miseries and non confessed uneasiness. Jews in Hitler’s Germany. The Left Nationalist Movement (ETA and HB) in Aznar and Juan Carlos’ Spain. The scapegoat is an utter evil: he doesn’t have ideas or reasons or feelings or decency or religion or virtues or anything. They are nothing but a pack of mad dogs, sick from a dangerous virus who have to be isolated, locked up in a leper hospital, eliminated. And the corollary: when it comes to the scapegoat, abstention is not allowed, third ways are betrayal, the one who isn’t AGAINST ETA and HB or DOESN’T SAY is with ETA and HB. The one who doesn’t burn incense for the gods is a blasphemer.

The second aim of the operation is which really amounts the essence of fascism: to crush dissidence, to eliminate the dissidents, to avoid even a centre of resistance, of opposition to the goals and interests of the Capital. It has to be pointed out that this time it is directed at the dissidence of the Basque Nationalist Movement, which is the only one in the State that defends an anticapitalist and anti-Maastricht radical project (independence and socialism) (HB, opposed to IU’s coward abstention or in favour vote, was the only force to vote against Maastricht Treaty at the session where the Spanish Congress passed that bill). Spanish Capital and Government’s cunning is to use the crushing of Basque dissidence as a pretext to obtain the exceptional powers and legislation which will be later used against the dissidence that rises in Spain against the brutal consequences of the euro and European Monetary Union.

Third and fourth goals are also classic fascist objectives: war to the foreigner in order to strengthen the idea and experience of the Home Country. In this case war to the Basque that want to be Basque, war to the Basque Country where every semester the polls show that more and more Basque want independence, and that feel only Basque, and that claim for self-determination right, that want to separate from the corrupt and stinking Spain that (as PSOE’s victory in 1993 proved) elects well-known torturers, assassins, swindlers, bribed and thieves as rulers.

War to the Basque Country making use of the hard nazifascist ideological core: WE ARE MUCH MORE THAN THEM, WE ARE MUCH STRONGER THAN THEM, the minority has to obey the majority, if the LAW doesn’t punish properly the evils, it has to be changed, Law cannot become the refugee to the evils, rather Order than Freedom, assassins don’t have right to express themselves, there cannot be freedom for everybody, there cannot be freedom for liberticides.

War to strengthen the unsteady identity and trembling feeling of Spain as Mother Country, as Nation. The use the JULIAZO to refund Spain oozes in so many texts published or broadcast this month, that it is difficult to choose a single quote. 10. «Nights of Broken Glasses». Spontaneous attacks on HB headquarters led by policemen disguised as angry citizens and called by «pacifist» groups. And protected by policemen in their uniforms.
